We just need to get you holding a club and bashing the odd ball and you shall be hooked for life.

Yes, it was a delight to beat the Yanks in such an extraordinary way, but I think you do Lefty a disservice. Mickelson is one of the good guys, and for the first time in the Ryder Cup I think he really felt a part of something at Medinah. I didn’t have to suffer the Sky coverage, but I suggest that next time you hit the volume control and turn on Radio Five Live whilst watching the pictures on your 52 inch flat screen with a beer in your hand.

As for the game itself, well, it’s as much a sport as tennis…so there’s less running around but it still involves hand-to-eye co-ordination, and one of its great positives is that you can play until you drop. Age is no barrier.

Money: are golfers less deserving of huge prize funds than footballers or members of the ATP Tour? Do golfers cheat? I didn’t see McIlroy throwing himself on the ground and rolling around when Jim Furyk holed another ridiculous putt, or Westwood swearing at the referee because his ball took a wicked bounce. I think I know what I prefer…

Each to his own. You are either in love with a game or not. American Football and basketball leave me cold, but if you they add something to your life, then great. (Just don’t make me watch either!!!)

One final thing: Ian Poulter…I suggest a national holiday in his honour. Discuss.

kbnymets
Kevin Brocknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-90564991369665221852012-08-23T00:31:37.585+01:002012-08-23T00:31:37.585+01:00Bout time you came back. Did you feel the same way after the last olympics? You think you'll feel the same after the next in Rio?
Amatuer sports are looked on as noble because it harks back to a time when these guys were basically indentured servants. The labels "amatuer" and "professioinal" represent different things in the national pysche and in the games. If you look at the Olympics we "expect" the professionals like Wiggans, Murray etc to win while if the amatuers do their best this is more than enough. If we began to pay olympic athletes and started to say that it is there "job" to go out there and win every time (which is always expected of professional football teams regardless of their strength {evident when say Wiggan does actually lose to Man U and the fans are disapointed})there would be much less acceptance of losing. Also the pressure of those who compete at the olympics compared to that which professional footballers suffer is much less due to the nature of the games. Athletes rarley get universily slagged off if they make mistakes or do their best and lose which is exactly what happens to footballers. Either way - keep the good articles flowing - WalshAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-85018067134646336592011-01-25T18:28:11.905+00:002011-01-25T18:28:11.905+00:00keep em coming Nick!keep em coming Nick!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07480085498847667871noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-48292135611624187202010-12-20T16:30:47.931+00:002010-12-20T16:30:47.931+00:00I think you could have talked Haye out of it Nick!...I think you could have talked Haye out of it Nick!! Got to agree with you on this. Not the young player's fault. They need stricter guidelines at the clubs.
The bigger issue is the stupid money being spent on very ordinary players. John Terry £120k a week??I ask you, a slow one dimensional centre half who gets ripped apart by a nippy little forward. It will all fold like a pack of cards when some of the debt in football starts coming out. Bring back the days of local players for local clubs and a sense of identity for fans to cling to. I ask you, what Premiership or even Championship club provides that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-55136428844940595462009-09-06T19:56:56.346+01:002009-09-06T19:56:56.346+01:00Am I the only one that can not seem to post on Nic...Am I the only one that can not seem to post on Nick's rant blog??
Wrote long reply to his cricket rant when he unfairly didnt give England credit and it didnt post!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-60770284590252431232009-09-04T11:56:19.085+01:002009-09-04T11:56:19.085+01:00Settle, he is a rental client for the last four ye...Settle, he is a rental client for the last four years so hands off.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-64664464531267089812009-09-04T11:44:11.509+01:002009-09-04T11:44:11.509+01:00There is only one thing worse than being banned fr...There is only one thing worse than being banned from two transfer windows, that is signing J V of H!!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-12444561243731916742009-08-29T10:50:58.440+01:002009-08-29T10:50:58.440+01:00nah...... Firstly Bourc's position was perfect.
Had he not come out spread low the 'diving cheat' would have been able to shoot or cross rather than take a touch round which forced him wide, if he is not close it is easy to lift the ball over. The only thing left for the fraudster was to dive due to the goal keeper’s positioning. Obviously never played between the sticks Nick!
It is down to a player taking advantage of a weak referee and getting caught. TV evidence from behind the goal is conclusive there was no contact. The whole thing just never looked like a penalty. Also note the lack of celebration by most of the Arsenal team after he converted.
There are three aspects of refereeing that both FIFA and UEFA need to jump on, descent, simulation and a fourth official using video tech to advice the referee about critical decisions.
Here for me the dangerous precedent is to not make an example out of Eduardo.
Interestingly the trial by video reply is a personal crusade by Gordon Smith which is why he is being particularly outspoken. Eighteen months ago on being appointed head of the SFA he change the SPL rules, clubs and referees could cite opposing players for trial by video in a session the SFA would hold each Tuesday morning to review the weekends action. FIFA responded to this by telling the SFA that if they followed through with this initiative Scotland's club and National teams would be disqualified from all non domestic competition as it was not within there mandate to change the rules of the game. I can honestly say this Rangers man would have been even more critical of this situation had Scot MacDonald gone down in the Arsenal penalty in the same fashion.
If UEFA fail to take suitable action I guess we will just need to send somebody round to his house to stab him in both legs and assault his mother.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-40033265293833936622009-08-27T13:43:19.825+01:002009-08-27T13:43:19.825+01:00now don't you feel better Phil!now don't you feel better Phil!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05682303424734492363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-85825731912037532122009-08-27T11:59:00.110+01:002009-08-27T11:59:00.110+01:00You should be ranting about that diving, cheating ...You should be ranting about that diving, cheating little Arsenal retard for bringing football into disrepute. That game last night was all about the first goal and he stole it with the aid of weak match official. Sure Arsenal won 3-1 but at 1-0 down Celtic changed to 4-3-3 which allowed the lucky cheating Londoners a lot of space and time on the ball which completely changed this game. Not saying Celtic would have won, but this cheat did steal their chance. Then there is gracious Arshole Wenger, surprise he did not see it!!! The cameras clearly caught him off his seat appealing as his player swaned towards the turf.
It's a disgrace!
Only consolation is having played Barca and Manchester last year in this competition is that these cheating impostors are long way off the level required to threaten in this tournament. Also my premiership TV viewing will have extra interest this year in the hope and expectation that Man City will overall these shamsters taking the fourth champions league spot.
Should get my own rant spot, this feels good!

pgmc66Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-82254999161715433272009-08-24T19:21:10.721+01:002009-08-24T19:21:10.721+01:00Sensationalism from the English press, overly cyni...Sensationalism from the English press, overly cynical or overly excitedly nationalistic………… what’s new??????
jimmyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-460692480290642341.post-24830821634805130502009-08-24T18:12:59.773+01:002009-08-24T18:12:59.773+01:00If you want to get over excited about winning an e...If you want to get over excited about winning an event with only two entrants why not follow the Scottish Premier League instead?????
pgmcAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
